July 4 - The National Archives, Washington, D.C. Independence Day Festivities and reading of The Declaration of Independence. July 8 (noon) - Thomas Jefferson converses with and answers the questions of visitors to Independence Hall who are in attendance for the reenactment of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence, first read by Col. John Nixon on July 8, 1776. The event begins at 11:30 a.m., and the reading begins at noon. This event is sponsored by Independence National Historical Park, and is FREE and open to the public.
